Orlando Implodes As Carmelo Anthony Leads New York to a 96-80 Win

Oh the drama.

Two of the most drama-filled teams in the East goes head-to-head and the team with more dysfunctional issue took the loss tonight as the Knicks beat the Magic 96-80.

The Dwight Howard saga has been going on for the entire season, and head coach Stan Van Gundy has never been a popular figure in Orlando for the most part.

The inability of Van Gundy to get the team on the same page has been an issue and publicly visible since Dwight Howard was drafted to the Magic and the stewing conflict has finally reached Hollywood proportions when Van Gundy told the media that he’s heard Howard telling the Magic officials to sack him.

But enough of that sissy media posturing, let’s take a look at the game that helped New York protect it’s 1 game lead over the Milwaukee Bucks for the final playoff spot.

Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks once again with 19 points, but it was a more balanced effort by the entire Knicks squad with Tyson Chandler once again providing a steady and solid 12 point, 12 rebound line while keeping Howard to a season-low 8 points. Howard failed to score until late in the third quarter with a dunk.

The role players did their part for the Knicks as well, with JR Smith and Toney Douglas each contributing 15 points and the entire team hit 13 of 25 three-pointers as opposed to the Magic’s woeful 9 of 24 shooting from beyond the arc.

Jason Richardson led the Magic with 16 points while Glen Davis chipped in 15.
